Mailing Services FAQ

Direct mail (or bulk mail) consists of a batch of mail sent to a list of recipients for a particular purpose via the U.S. Postal Service.

Yes. To qualify for discounted pre-sorted rates First Class mail can be sent to as few as 200 recipients. Standard mail rates start at 500 recipients.

It certainly does! A recent article from the Small Business Administration states: “While direct mail and email marketing campaigns get similar response rates, a recent study found direct mail campaigns generate purchases five times larger than email campaigns. Combining email with direct mail led to the best results of all: purchases six times larger than email alone generated.”

We can guide you every step of the way, including initial consultation regarding best size and rates, designing your postcard, envelope inserts, printing, assembly, sorting, documentation and postal delivery.

There are three types of USPS Marketing Mail.

Postcards must be at least 5″ long x 3.5″ wide x 0.007″ thick and no more than 11.5″ long x 6.125″ wide x 0.25″ thick.

“Letters” must be at least 5″ long x 3.5″ wide x 0.007″ thick and no more than 11.5″ long x 6.125″ wide x 0.25″ thick. The post office considers anything adhering to these sizes to be a letter even if it’s a card.

Flats must have one dimension that is greater than 11.5″ long OR 6.125″ wide OR 0.25″ thick. Flats can be no more than 15″ long x 12″ wide x 0.75″ thick.

Yes. We handle direct mail logistics for many clients using their permit.

We can help you purchase a list of recipients targeted to very specific people. If you want to mail to everyone in a particular location, you may want to consider EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) which is even less expensive. We can handle that for you as well.

Marketing mail announces events like sales, anniversaries, seasonal offers. A quarterly mailing to your client base is an excellent way to keep your business top of mind. Ask about our co-op campaigns to reduce your overall costs even further.

You’ll receive discounted rates based on the size of your mail piece, and the distribution (it’s less expensive if many pieces go to one zip code). Marketing mail rates can be less than half the cost of regular mail. Visit the USPS Business Mail Postage Calculator for an idea of the costs to mail a specific campaign (minus service costs).

Generally speaking the bulk rate postage for postcards (maximum 4.25×6) is 26¢ to 33¢ each plus preparation (design and merge setup). The postage depends on whether Standard/Marketing mail (2-10 days) is chosen or First Class (2-3 days) as well as if your distribution is confined to certain zip codes or it has a wide distribution area.

For letters the postage for pieces under 1 ounce ranges from 30¢ to 48¢ depending on the same factors.

First class has a stricter delivery time and is recommended for campaigns with immediate time-sensitivity. However, Standard (or Marketing Mail) class mail often arrives just as quick, but depending on the distribution it can also be grouped and sent to staging facilities, delaying delivery up to two weeks. Planning your campaigns in advance will obviously greatly reduce your costs with Marketing Mail rates.

Yes, non-profit mail is another class of mail and enjoys even further discounts. Of course, we can help you manage that as well.

Business Reply mail is a separate kind of mail. If you wish to include a pre-paid reply envelope with your mailing, a Business Reply envelope is a great way to increase your return rate. We can help you there as well.
